Rob's done several newsletters in 2018 but the web oaf is behind on these - will catch up soon.

The full set of newsletters can be viewed on the newsletters page.

Who are we?

We are the Phoenix Bowmen, a target archery club based at Illingworth in Halifax, Yorkshire. We are a well-established club with a growing and active membership.

We are affiliated to Archery GB, the Northern Counties Archery Society and the Yorkshire Archery Association.

Our location is at Halifax RUFC's ground on Keighley Road (the A629). We shoot both indoors and outdoors, depending on the season and the weather. We shoot recurves, barebows, compounds and English longbows. All shooting at the club is target shooting, but our members also take part in field archery and clout archery shoots.

We shoot imperial and metric rounds. Our main shoot is on Sundays from 11:30 AM. We also shoot outdoors on Saturday mornings from 10:30 AM. We shoot on several weekday evenings - in particular, we have a Monday evening session exclusively for the club's junior archers, which has helped them achieve strikingly high standards in a fun atmosphere.

All practising, prospective and returning archers are welcome. We can lend club equipment to people wanting to give archery a try. The facilities are safe for children.

Please note that we do not have suitable facilities for crossbows (and our constitution excludes the use of crossbows at the club) and we may not be able to handle very large groups.

We run beginners courses during the outdoor season - see the Beginners page for more details. Please note that for safety reasons we don't accept juniors aged under 11 years onto a course.

The next courses with spaces will start in March 2019.

Please e-mail us (beginners@phoenixbowmen.co.uk) to register your interest. DO NOT TELEPHONE, ESPECIALLY NOT DURING WORKING HOURS. We're not a commercial organisation and the secretary works for a living. He cannot take calls at work about archery.
